2020 Dodge Grand Caravan vs Chrysler Voyager

February 10th, 2020 by

When it comes to carrying around people and their things, the two top contenders on the market today are the 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan and the 2020 Chrysler Voyager. Both vehicles are fantastic contenders with a long history of reliable service, but each of them has their particular strengths. Let’s compare the two to see which excels.

Reliability is a significant factor for this particular class of vehicle, as vans often serve as the means of transportation for an entire family. J.D. Power and Associates hold annual surveys to determine the long-term dependability of vehicles. Overall, Chrysler vehicles rate as more reliable than Dodge, who is ranked as 28th overall. Additionally, Chrysler’s warranty is sturdier as well, featuring 5-year, 100,000-mile coverage versus Dodge’s 60,000-mile cap.

Beneath the hood, the vehicles are fairly comparable, but the Chrysler still manages to pull ahead. The Voyager’s 3.6-liter V6 is slightly more powerful than the Grand Caravan, but just barely, with 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Fuel efficiency is similar, with the Voyager clocking in at 28 miles per gallon highway, with the Grand Caravan at 25. Additionally, the Voyager features an automatic engine start/stop system that regulates fuel consumption when the vehicle isn’t moving. This results in less wear and tear on the engine and not only extends service life but reduces fuel consumption as well.

Aside from power and mechanical ability, the real measure of this class of vehicle is its ability to carry passengers and their cargo. Both vehicles are comparable, but the Voyager has slightly more cargo space, with 165 cubic feet compared to the Grand Caravan’s 158. Optional third-row seats are stowable at the touch of a button, a feature unique to the Voyager. Additional available amenities in the Voyager cabin include keyless entry and air-conditioned seats. Both vehicles offer Bluetooth connectivity, for easy communication on the go.

All in all, both vehicles are fantastic examples of what passenger vans in the new decade are able to achieve.
