Learn How to Make Fewer Stops at the Pump

2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

If you find that your Mission commute has gotten longer or you’re trying to plan ahead for a Edinburg road trip, you’re likely curious about how to be fuel efficient when driving. While many of the new vehicles and even pre-owned vehicles we have in our selection are already fuel-efficient, there are some different things you can do to help you make fewer stops at the pump on your adventures. Today, the experts at Burns Motors are going to go over how to be fuel efficient when driving to help you save even after you’ve purchased a vehicle from us!

How to Be Fuel Efficient When Driving

While a lot of your fuel economy figures can come from the specific vehicle your driving, there are definitely driving habits and other factors that can help you decrease your vehicle’s fuel consumption. Let’s take a look at some of the different ways you can tailor your driving style to be more fuel-efficient when you’re driving around Pharr:

  • Ease Into the Gas Pedal: Use the gas pedal sparingly on drives. The harder you press the gas pedal, the more fuel your vehicle will use. Practice accelerating smoothly to help decrease fuel consumption.
  • Avoid Traffic: Stop and go traffic, especially during rush hour is not only harsh on your vehicle’s mechanical components, but it can also cause heavy consumption of fuel. Plan ahead to avoid the substantial amount of traffic during rush hour or find a shortcut to reach your destination.
  • Don’t Speed: Try your best to avoid speeding. Much like abrupt acceleration, speeding causes your vehicle to use more fuel. Do your best to keep your speed between 55 mph to 65 mph as long as the speed limit allows you to do so.
  • Coast: When you can do so safely, try your best to coast to a stop wherever you go. If you encounter a hill, you can let off the gas pedal as your going downhill to maintain forward momentum without using any fuel.
  • Bypass Air Conditioning: While we understand summers can get pretty warm, try to bypass using your air conditioning system when possible. Your air conditioning system could increase fuel consumption by up to 20%. If you must turn on your air conditioner, try using the recirculate button when possible.

On top of your driving habits, make sure your vehicle is properly maintained so that it can perform its best. Schedule a service appointment and our technicians will ensure your vehicle is up to spec so that its performance is optimized.
