When one envisions a ‘muscle car’, older vehicles generally spring to mind. The sharp lines of chunky cars from years past continue to form an impression even to this day, frequently featuring in films and popular media. Nonetheless, most muscle cars are relegated to auto shows and enthusiasts, leaving many to wonder if the age of the muscle car hasn’t come to an end.
The v says otherwise.
This latest offering from Dodge revives the legendary Charger line, merging old-school grit with the latest technology from this century. Starting with the modest (for a Charger) 300 horsepower V6 SXT, this latest model offers a variety of configurations and trims. Chief among these is the special Daytona Edition Hellcat Widebody, sporting a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 that cranks an absolutely incredible 717 horsepower and achieves a top speed of 196 miles per hour that can hit 60 mph from a dead stop in 3.6 seconds.
All of this power is augmented through a variety of available performance features, including Bilstein shock absorbers and high-performance suspension tuning, 20×9-inch forged alloy wheels, 4-piston Brembo brakes, and 245/45ZR20 all-season tires. The 2020 Charger can be configured to chew up the road with grace and ease.
While the power under the hood is the main event, the interior of the cabin isn’t lacking either. Available features such as sport seats, a flat-bottom leather steering wheel with shift paddles and an 8.4-inch diameter Uconnect infotainment screen adorn the cabin. Featuring creature comforts such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, this system also provides access to the Dodge Performance Pages app that allows you to review driving performance stats and fine-tune certain settings.
All in all, this latest Charger dispels any notion that the muscle car is a dying breed and reinvigorates the imagination of what is possible.
